Terry Rozier hasn't played in an NBA game since April 2025 after his alleged involvement in a gambling scheme was made public.
Rozier's alleged involvement occurred when he was still a member of the Charlotte Hornets, with the team and the league allegedly being aware of potential red flags around Rozier at the time he was traded to the Miami Heat for Kyle Lowry and a protected 2027 first-round pick. However, it's unclear if Rozier was under investigation at the time.
Those red flags materialized and made Rozier unable to play, leaving his $26.7 million contract on the Heat's books while they also lost a first-round draft pick.
Naturally, the Heat felt like they were unwittingly caught in a bad situation, with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver even echoing that the Heat should receive some relief in an 'unprecedented situation.'
It seems some sort of an agreement has been made between the Heat and the Hornets to move on from this dispute, with The Associated Press' Tim Reynolds reporting that the Hornets will be sending a 2026 second-round pick to the Heat as additional compensation. The pick will be the most favorable of either the Warriors' or the Nuggets' 2026 selection.

Rozier averaged 10.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 64 games in his last NBA season with the Heat. He pleaded not guilty to conspiracy charges of wire fraud and money laundering.
The federal allegation against Rozier claims that the Heat guard told an associate he would remove himself early in a Hornets game in March 2023, which led to over $200,000 being bet on the under for Rozier's statistics in the game.
This incident came very close to Toronto Raptors big man Jontay Porter being banned for life from the NBA for his alleged involvement in a gambling scheme as well.
The NBA hasn't announced a punishment for Rozier yet, as his case is also being federally investigated. In the meantime, it's unlikely the guard will get the opportunity to resume his NBA career.
He has $26.6 million left on his contract, with his 2025-26 salary reportedly being put in an escrow account as the league and the NBA Players' Association battle over whether Rozier will receive his fully guaranteed salary as the investigations continue.
