Former NFL referee turned rules expert Terry McAulay believes the referees in the Broncos vs. Rams game got it wrong.
There were several questionable calls in big moments on Sunday, from a missed offensive pass interference penalty on Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, to a brutal defensive pass interference penalty on Cowboys defensive back Daron Bland, to some missed calls in the Sunday night game between Denver and Los Angeles.
The Broncos topped the Rams, 30-26, on Sunday night. Los Angeles dropped to 1-2 on the season, while Denver improved to 2-1 on the year.
After a late pass attempt from Bo Nix to Pat Bryant, the refs threw a flag for pass interference, negating an interception by Josh Wallace. However, McAulay believes that the call was wrong.

McAulay believes that the penalty should not have been called.
“As we get towards the end, we actually see the receiver grab the defender and pull in on him,” McAulay said. “I don’t see the defender do anything that significantly hinders the receiver on this play. Even the first part. There’s just hands on him, he doesn’t do anything with them.”
Collinsworth added that the play should’ve been ruled an interception, to which McAulay agreed.
“If the knee gets down, yes. If two feet are down, yes. I absolutely—that’s what I see.”
It’s nice to see that McAulay was willing to call out the referees for making a mistake, especially in such a big moment.
The Broncos would go on to win the game, thanks in part to that highly questionable referee decision.
