It was announced Thursday night that Tennessee linebackers coach William Inge was hospitalized.
With No. 14 Tennessee set to host No. 1 Texas this Saturday, the school revealed that Inge is dealing with an undisclosed medical issue. The 52-year-old coach has been an assistant for the Volunteers since the 2024 season.
“Tennessee linebackers coach William Inge has been in the hospital dealing with a personal medical issue,” the statement read. “Coach Inge and his family appreciate your prayers and support, and we ask that you respect their privacy at this time.”
On Friday morning, Inge provided an update on his health. He also confirmed that he won’t be on the sideline this weekend.
“I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers,” Inge said. “I am resting comfortably. I am fighting the illness just like our team fights on Saturdays on the field. I look forward to supporting our team and wish them well tomorrow. GBO.”

Golden opportunity for the Vols.
Tennessee has taken care of business against inferior opponents such as Furman and Kennesaw State. Fans thought Georgia Tech would pose a bigger threat, but Tennessee cruised to a 45-24 win on the road.
If Tennessee wants to be considered a serious threat in the SEC, defeating Texas would go a long way.
ESPN’s computer model currently gives the Longhorns a 70.3% chance of taking down the Volunteers.
Kickoff for the Texas-Tennessee game is at 12 p.m. ET on ABC.
