Does Team USA need to make a starting five change?
The American women barely escaped Italy on Sunday afternoon, winning 55-52 in a tight FIBA Women’s World Cup game. Team USA is now 2-0 in the tournament, but Sunday’s performance was a shaky one.
“I think there’s no question that the world is improving at a rapid rate. It’s so exciting to see, and I see it at every level,” head coach Kara Lawson said before the tournament began. “There’s more depth to the teams at the World Cup. Now when you look at rosters, there’s a number of just high-quality players. … I think it’s going to be the most difficult World Cup to win that we’ve had because of that.”
Team USA got the win on Sunday, starting: Jackie Young, Chelsea Gray, Kahleah Cooper, Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart.
