If you follow politics even a little bit these days you'll fall under the impression that the United States is seriously unpopular in the international community. But with the Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina underway, did those political disagreements make their way to the Opening Ceremony?

Fortunately, it doesn't appear so.

At the Opening Ceremony, a record-setting contingent of 232 Team USA athletes made their way onto the field proudly representing their country. Despite some concerns that they might be booed in protest of recent policies, they were met with some of the loudest cheers of any nation present except for maybe host nation Italy itself.

A warm reception?

United States Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance were both in attendance to cheer on the athletes. According to some reports, the Vice President was heckled and booed a bit whenever his own face was shown on the screens.

Even the analysts seem to notice how the crowd changed its tune the moment Vance became visible.

Some have noticed that NBC has taken down the video of the boos from their main channels. It remains to be seen if they will cut the clip from their Opening Ceremony video on YouTube and other platforms.

Some fans believe that certain athletes might be feeling embarrassed either by the boos directed at Vance or for even being represented by Vance in the first place.

"I feel bad for American athletes that Trump Vance makes America hated in the world," one user remarked on X.

"I’m ashamed of my country. Ashamed. We have to get these awful people out of office," wrote another.

"We’re Villains of the World, unfortunately!" a third wrote.

Team USA will have the next two weeks to change the hearts and minds of people around the world though.
