Suni Lee's announcement gave a major boost to the U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team. She will return to the sport with the objective of competing in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
The decorated gymnast made it known by posting a video on Instagram. Thousands of fans and her fellow athletes reacted to it, including Team USA's account.
Lee is a six-time Olympic gold medalist, consisting of two gold, one silver and three bronze medals. The 23-year-old teased on Tuesday that it was more than just a comeback, ending the clip with a text asking her fans to stay tuned.
"I know what I'm capable of," Lee said in the Instagram video. "I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get there."
Team USA dropped two reactions in the comments section.
"SUNI!!!!!!" Team USA wrote, along with a second message that read, "Day made ✅".
Now that Lee is on her way to potentially competing for the 2028 Games on home soil, the national team is still waiting on Simone Biles' decision.
She has left the door open for a potential return. Biles recently took a vacation with her husband, Jonathan Owens, after a near-death experience. The legendary gymnast told the Olympics' official website in October that she’s "not sure what 2028 looks like, but I will be there in some capacity."
Lee competed on all four apparatuses in 2024. She ranked third overall and qualified for the all-around final. The Auburn Tigers product also qualified for the uneven bars and balance beam finals.
She has since walked the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show runway and appeared as a fictionalized version of herself on an episode of the Netflix series "Beef."
