Kara Lawson believes that Caitlin Clark’s overall game has significantly improved after their most recent Team USA campaign.
The national team’s head coach recently held a press conference about the upcoming 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, which will take place in September.
One of the questions asked was about the Indiana Fever star, who has been leading her team’s offense this season.
Lawson firmly stated that Clark has been on another level since she last suited up for the U.S. in March, when she won the tournament MVP.
“I think Caitlin’s been on a steady uptick from March when we had her, actually starts back in December when we had her until now. I think she’s improved in every area,” Lawson said.
The former Iowa standout helped Team USA sweep their assignments during the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament with a 5-0 record.
Clark averaged 11.6 points, 1.6 rebounds and 6.4 assists on 52.9% shooting from the field.
The Duke Blue Devils coach also noted that Clark has been one of the main reasons the Fever are among the top contenders in the ongoing WNBA season.
“She’s playing really well at this time,” Lawson added. “She plays at a high level. She’s doing that now, and she’s continuing to look better and better.”
Clark is averaging her best scoring season in her career with 21.7 points in 33 games for Indiana, while also contributing 3.8 rebounds and 8.3 assists.
Furthermore, the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year winner is shooting career-high percentages from the field (44.4%) and from downtown (35.4%).
