Team USA went out with a bang at the 2026 Winter Olympics by winning the men’s hockey event against Canada to claim their 12th gold medal. The Americans recorded their best finish since the 2010 Games in Vancouver, where they won 37 medals.
America collected a total of 33 medals to place second behind Norway. They took home 12 silver and nine bronze medals.
The Netherlands finished in third place with a total of 20 medals. Hosts Italy placed fourth despite winning 30 medals, as the Dutch earned more silver medals.
The men’s hockey team joined early gold medal winners like the women’s hockey team, who beat familiar foes Canada in the final which also went to overtime.
Kaila Kuhn, Connor Curran and Chris Lillis finished first in mixed aerials. Mikaela Shiffrin captured gold in the women’s alpine slalom race, while Alex Ferreira ruled the men’s halfpipe.

Elana Meyers Taylor, 41, won the women’s monobob, while speed skater Jordan Stolz won two gold medals. He finished first in the men’s 1,000 meters and followed it up with a victory in the 500 meters. Breezy Johnson won the women’s downhill event.
Elizabeth Lemley claimed the women’s individual moguls title.
Alysa Liu won the women’s singles figure skating event as USA took home the gold in the team event.
With the Milan-Cortina Games concluded, attention now turns to the USA as Los Angeles prepare for the 2028 Olympics.
The USA finished in first place in the 2024 edition with 126 medals, although they tied with China in gold medals. They also narrowly edged the Asian giants in the 2020 edition in terms of overall first-place finish.
