Taylor Swift has given her husband, Travis Kelce, a very personal shoutout on her latest project, using his Cleveland roots to make a bigger statement about their relationship. Swift released “Cleveland!” Friday as one of four new songs on “The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore,” the expanded version of her blockbuster 2025 album.
The song arrives less than three months after Swift and Kelce got married on July 3. It also comes after the couple spent more time around his hometown, including a May trip to Cleveland for an NBA playoff game and Kelce’s purchase of a $5.35 million lakefront mansion in nearby Bratenahl earlier this year.

“Cleveland!” is essentially Swift’s response to people who criticize her appearance, personality and relationship with Kelce. She begins by listing insults directed at her before shifting the song toward the person whose opinion matters most to her.
Swift then brings Kelce into the song by referencing his hometown and Cleveland Heights, where the Kansas City Chiefs tight end grew up. The chorus makes the point that while other people can criticize her, Kelce has chosen her and remains committed to her.
The song becomes even more personal when Swift describes Kelce as someone who accepts her despite the criticism. She acknowledges that people have questioned whether he could find someone younger or someone they consider more suitable, but she frames his decision to stay with her as the only opinion that matters.
The strongest message comes in the bridge, where Swift says she only needed to find one person in the world who did not find her “completely insufferable.” She then announces that she found that person, making it clear that Kelce is the subject without needing to name him directly.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Ties to Cleveland
Cleveland is not simply a random location chosen for the song title. Kelce was born in Westlake, Ohio, and grew up in Cleveland Heights, making Northeast Ohio a major part of his identity. His older brother, Jason Kelce, also grew up in the area before becoming an NFL star with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Kelce has previously talked about sharing his Cleveland roots with Swift. During a May episode of “New Heights,” he discussed taking her back to Cleveland and showing her the places connected to his childhood. The couple were also spotted together at Rocket Arena during the Cleveland Cavaliers’ playoff series against the New York Knicks in May.
Their ties to the area became even stronger when Kelce purchased the Bratenahl property. The reported $5.35 million mansion sits on more than three acres and is roughly 10 minutes from downtown Cleveland. The 21,000-square-foot estate was built in 1895 and has a long history in the area.
Swift’s final reference to wearing white also gives the song a clear connection to their marriage. After spending much of the track addressing criticism, she closes by returning to the same message: Kelce is the person she chose, and she is not interested in what anyone else thinks about the relationship.
“Cleveland!” is one of four new songs on The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, alongside “Patient Zero,” “Pink Clouding” and “Babylon.” Swift said she and collaborators Max Martin and Shellback wrote the additional songs after returning to the studio following the success of the original album.
