The Winter Olympics are just a few days away and one of the biggest international rivalries is expected to be Team USA vs. Team Canada in a slew of big events. So when Canadian singer Tate McRae seemingly declared support for Team USA, the Canadians were ready to revolt.
McRae has been doing an ad campaign for Team USA, showcasing some of America's top athletes ahead of the Olympics and doing meet & greets with superstars such as Lindsey Vonn
"I'm trying to get to Milan for an amazing opening ceremony and meet Team USA," she said in an NBC ad. "Gonna spend the week with some of America's best skating for gold and Lindsey Vonn's epic comeback. And back to the states for the big game, Super Bowl LX."
But this willingness to hype up Team USA really didn't sit well with her Canadian brothers and sisters.
Backlash
Despite taking to Instagram this week and declaring “y’all know I’m Canada down,” he has still be ridiculed for allying herself with the country's arch-rival in sports (and sometimes politics).
"Her PR team working overtime," one user said dismissively.
"Well then why support the US team? Sometimes it is important to support your own country and not just go for the money and especially during times like this," wrote another.
"Then why do you support the US team?" a third asked.
"I dunno Tate. That US add is not cool at all."
"America can have her. Don’t care."

Politics and sports tends to bring out the worst in people. Hopefully when the Olympics are over and the dust settles, McRae isn't a full-blown pariah north of the US-Canada border.
