Lindsey Vonn entered the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics as one of the most decorated alpine skiers in the history of the sport. Among her credentials are three Olympic medals — one gold and two bronze — from her four previous Winter Games stints.
The 41-year-old was not able to add to her Olympic tally this year. This is after Vonn suffered a devastating injury in the downhill final — her first medal race in the 2026 Games.
Vonn fractured the tibia in her left leg. The injury required multiple rounds of surgery, which ruled her out for the rest of the Olympics.

After undergoing several procedures in Italy, Vonn returned home to the U.S. She went under the knife again multiple times, and she is now working hard on rehabbing her leg.
On Thursday, the four-time World Cup champion took to social media to share an update on her road to recovery.
“Definitely some hard times but still thankful… still working hard. The only goal is to get healthy. One day at a time,” Vonn posted, sharing a video of her workout and recovery sessions.
Support quickly poured in from fans and friends alike after Vonn’s latest health update.
“You already look like you’re months into it already 🤯 👊🏻 💪 you really are built different. Stay strong mind/body 🙌🏻” a comment on Instagram read.
“I can’t believe you’re doing all this already! So impressive girl!” another said.
“👏👏👏👏💪” posted Spanish soccer legend Carles Puyol.
“Absolutely incredible. Always blowing our minds,” reacted retired British Olympic skier Chemmy Alcott.
“So resilient 🙌🏻💪🏻” a user wrote.
“You’re a machine. 🙌🙌🙌” declared another.
It’s going to be a long road ahead for Vonn as she rehabs her surgically repaired leg. At this point, the veteran skier is focused on getting back on her feet again. Once she crosses that major hurdle, Vonn can seriously consider what’s next for her decorated career.
