Super Bowl Champion Barry Wilburn Dies In Fire At 62

Prayers are pouring in after a Super Bowl champion died in a horrifying house fire at 62 years old this weekend.

Former NFL Super Bowl champion Barry Wilburn, who played for the Washington Redskins when they took down the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXII, was identified as the victim of a house fire in Memphis, Tennessee.

He was just 62 years old.

"Family and friends are mourning the loss of former NFL player and Super Bowl champion Barry Wilburn. Family confirms he was the victim of a house fire in Orange Mound early Friday morning," Action News 5 confirmed.

"The Memphis Fire Department responded to a reported residential structure fire on Douglass Avenue in Orange Mound at around 2am Friday morning. They found an unresponsive victim in the rear hallway. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A representative for the family has confirmed that Wilburn is the victim of the fire. MFD have yet to confirm the victim’s identity."

NFL fans are devastated.

Wilburn, an eighth round NFL Draft pick out of Ole Miss in 1985, played for the Redskins, Browns, Chiefs and Eagles.

Fans are sending their prayers to his family

"I remember him from the glory days. What an awful way to go. RIP," one fan wrote.

"I remember when he played for the Redskins. Sad news," one fan added.

"Great player, horrific way to go. Prayers to his family, friends and teammates," another fan wrote.

"RIP to a great player and person. Too soon for this Redskin! We will miss you Barry!" one fan added.
