Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr makes the game plans, but when it comes to roster construction, he said he is leaving that to the front office. The Feb. 5 trade deadline is approaching, and it seems the Warriors are cooking something.

"Steve Kerr says Mike Dunleavy called him today to brief him on some things he’s working on behind the scenes," NBC reporter Dalton Johnson wrote on X.

"Some big fish are being moved right, but the biggest one remains out there," he added.

Kerr confirmed the news but explained that the call was more of a heads-up.

"We have a clear separation of powers here. I think it's the right way to do it," the four-time champion coach said, as reported by ESPN's Anthony Slater.

"Mike calls me if anything comes up," Kerr stated. "I don't call him and make any suggestions. He called me today to kind of give me a heads-up on some of the things they were talking about. They definitely take my input, but I'm not on the trade machine at home making suggestions."

One of the "big fish" that has found a new team is James Harden, who was sent by the Los Angeles Clippers to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Darius Garland and a second-round pick.

The Warriors were never in the Harden conversation, although they were among the names heavily linked to Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks. Recent reports claimed that the Dubs are ready to part ways with franchise legend Draymond Green, as well as young players Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski, to land the Greek Freak.

The Warriors are racing to fortify their squad before the playoffs after the season-ending injury to their second star, Jimmy Butler. They are eighth in the Western Conference with a 27-24 record and four games behind the fifth seed.
