Steve Kerr has built one of the most decorated résumés in NBA history. After winning five NBA titles as a player with the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs, he led the Golden State Warriors to four titles and six Finals appearances across 12 seasons.
Kerr has operated at the pinnacle of the sport for three decades. He was named NBA Coach of the Year in 2015-16 and coached the United States men’s national team to a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
But after the Warriors were eliminated in the NBA play-in tournament by the Phoenix Suns, questions arose about his future in San Francisco, with his contract expiring at the end of the season. Kerr himself described the situation as roughly 50-50 as to whether he would return for a 13th season.

While he continues to weigh his options, an offer from outside the coaching world has reportedly emerged.
On Sunday, Marc Stein of "The Stein Line" reported that ESPN’s top executives have been trying to convince Kerr to return to broadcasting.
The interest is not surprising given Kerr’s history in front of the camera. After retiring as a player in 2003, Kerr joined Turner Network Television as a color commentator alongside Marv Albert, where he became a respected and popular voice on NBA broadcasts.
He left broadcasting in 2007 to become the general manager of the Suns before returning to TNT as an NBA analyst for the 2010-11 season, also calling NCAA Tournament and Final Four coverage alongside Jim Nantz and Clark Kellogg. Kerr departed the broadcast booth for the final time in May 2014 when the Warriors came calling.
As of writing, he has not had any formal job conversations with anyone outside of the Warriors, and those close to him stress his decision will be made strictly on its own merits, according to Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard.
Whether he returns to the Warriors sideline or steps into a new chapter entirely, the NBA world will be watching closely.
