The Golden State Warriors are fighting to stay alive in the Western Conference as injuries continue to decimate the roster. Not only is forward Jimmy Butler out for the season, but superstar Stephen Curry has also been unavailable and has not played at all in February.

As a result, the team has had to rely heavily on contributions from younger players along with guidance from its veteran core, none more impactful than Draymond Green. Green has been a central figure in Golden State’s dynasty throughout his 14‑year NBA career.

He has helped the franchise capture four championships, and his individual track record includes four All‑Star selections, two All‑NBA honors, nine All‑Defensive nods and one Defensive Player of the Year award.

As Golden State prepares for Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers, Green’s availability has been uncertain. The 35‑year‑old has been nursing a back injury over the past couple of weeks, forcing him to miss multiple games.

Fortunately for Golden State, it appears Green will be available for the shorthanded Warriors on Saturday. Head coach Steve Kerr announced Friday that Green is expected to play after participating fully in practice (h/t Nick Friedell of The Athletic).

This is significant because the Warriors desperately need stability and leadership as they try to climb the standings. Green remains the anchor of the team, and even in the later stages of his career, he continues to impact winning with his defensive instincts, playmaking and ability to organize the floor on both ends.

Green's presence is especially important with the Warriors currently sitting in the eighth seed, positioned for the play‑in tournament but still within striking distance of a top‑six spot. A win over the Lakers, who hold the sixth seed, would help close the gap and keep Golden State’s postseason hopes alive.

While Green is primarily known for his defensive presence, he has still contributed offensively this season, averaging 8.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.1 assists while shooting 41.0% from the field and 32% from beyond the arc across 48 games.

Green’s return gives the Warriors a much‑needed boost at a critical point in their season, and his ability to stay on the floor will play a major role in determining whether Golden State can make one final push toward playoff security.
