Stephen Curry Makes Honest Admission About Failure After Contract Update

The Warriors superstar offered a candid look at the failures, doubts, and ambitions that shaped his NBA career while speaking in Hong Kong.

Stephen Curry is preparing for his 18th NBA season with the Golden State Warriors, and the four-time champion and 12-time All-Star has started sharing the lessons that shaped his career and helped him reach those heights.

During a Monday visit to Shun Tak Fraternal Association Leung Kau Kui College in Hong Kong, Curry opened up about nerves, failure, and the mindset behind his rise when asked how he handles pressure and self-doubt.

“I still get nervous because if you don’t, that means it doesn’t matter to you,” Curry said. “But I rely on all the times that I’ve shot the shots that I know that I’m about to go do on the court, and then I’m OK if I miss it, I’m not gonna be happy.

“I know that failure is a part of it. You have to be able to accept what happens out there on the court.”

Curry, who was drafted with the No. 7 overall pick by Golden State in the 2009 NBA Draft, also reflected on the criticism he’s faced throughout his career.

“You have to understand that’s part of life,” Curry said. “People are always going to say that you can’t do this, you can’t do that. But I just made sure that I had as much fun as possible, and I relied on my work ethic to get me through.”

Curry is entering his 18th season with Golden State on an expiring deal and amid questions about his next contract and future. Speaking to NBC Sports Bay Area, Curry made his preferred outcome clear earlier on Sept. 1.

“There’s no question I want to be here the rest of my career, and I’m pretty sure that’s going to happen,” Curry said. “The deal and the contract stuff will happen at the right time, and we’re not letting it be a distraction from our preparation for the season, and the fact that the team we’re coming back with has a lot of familiarity.”

The Warriors will tip off their 2026-27 season against the Los Angeles Lakers on Oct. 21 at 10 p.m. ET.
