Stephen A. Smith is more than just a hot take artist on ESPN these days.
He's also a soap opera actor, a political pundit, a potential U.S. President candidate, a radio host and more. He was nearly a WWE star, too. Smith revealed on "First Take" on Monday that he was approached by the WWE about an on-screen role.
However, he turned it down.
Smith said that he's not as courageous as his ESPN colleague, Pat McAfee, who long held an on-air role with the WWE.
McAfee, meanwhile, will be taking a step back from the wrestling world moving forward, as the ESPN host prioritizes other things.
McAfee took a step back starting last summer
"Monday Night RAW is on tonight. I will not be commentating," McAfee said last June. "Continuing to just kind of catch up on life as a whole. Post-Money in the Bank, Pre-Night of Champions feels like a good time. I was getting pretty exhausted there. So shoutout to everybody at the WWE looking out for me, too. Very, very thankful."
He's got a lot going on.
"'I was getting pretty exhausted.. I produce/host a 5 day a week show, have been on the go every week since Dublin last year before College Football.. plus I run my growing company with 14 employees and have a 2 year old daughter,'" McAfee posted.
McAfee will soon be very busy with football season.
