Is there tension brewing between Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White and star guard Caitlin Clark? Some WNBA fans certainly think the answer to that question is a resounding yes.
After the Fever suffered a 102-85 loss to the Las Vegas Aces in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series, Clark brought up the offense’s struggles and how their “actions” were too sloppy.
“We want to play in transition, and obviously when they score 102 points, like, it’s hard for us to kind of get that part of it going,” Clark said. “I think they’re good defenders, but at the same time, we made it hard on ourselves, too. Like, I thought our actions were sloppy. I thought what we were running just wasn’t great and just nobody got an easy or open look.”
White, on the other hand, mentioned how the Fever gave up 28 points off turnovers. Fans thought that was a jab at Clark, who went 6-of-17 from the field for 15 points with six turnovers.

Prior to Game 2 this Tuesday night, White was asked if her and Clark went back and forth at each other during the postgame presser.
White quickly shut down that narrative, telling reporters that her postgame comments were meant to inspire the locker room, not cause a rift.
“I think we understand that social media noise doesn’t really have anything to do with what we do,” White said. “The biggest thing for us is staying focused on our team, staying focused on what we can do to be better. Some of our offensive stuff wasn’t working. Sometimes you have to get knocked in the mouth to figure stuff out. All of those things can be true without there being a controversy.”
Fans aren’t buying White’s comments.
Even though White’s comments Tuesday night shouldn’t be considered controversial, Indiana fans believe she has an issue with Clark.
“Well she didn’t deny it and also contradicted herself from her last press conference where she admitted online media gets to her,” one fan said.
“She just can’t get right…why can’t it be we talked and our on the same page and we’re ready to win tonight…it’s always some bs,” another fan commented.
If the Fever get eliminated in the opening round of the playoffs, there might be some fans calling for a coaching change very soon.
