Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White thanked the home fans for their positive reception in their latest home game.
The Fever ended their two-game homestand on Friday against the Dallas Wings, and fans cheered on their head coach ahead of tipoff.
This was the exact opposite of their reception in their previous game against the New York Liberty on Tuesday, when White was booed.
The jeering came after White's comments about Chicago Sky guard Dijonai Carrington's Flagrant 2 foul on Sophie Cunningham in their game on Aug. 8. After Carrington was ejected for swiping at Cunningham's head, White opted to commend the Sky star's style of play during her postgame interview.
Speaking to the press after Friday's game, White acknowledged the cheers from fans. She particularly pointed to those who have supported her since she took the helm of the franchise.
“Obviously, anytime you get an ovation from the crowd is nice, too,” White said. “I think our fans, the true Indiana Fever fans, are amazing. They’ve been incredible to me for a long time. I’ve been around a long time.”
The 2023 WNBA Coach of the Year also discussed how her team has shown her support despite all the controversies that have cast her name in a bad light.
“But more than anything, I’m thankful for this group of women and men on our staff,” White continued. “And I’m thankful that we can lift each other up when need be. They have lifted me up, and I’m happy about that and thankful for it.”
Ultimately, White and the Fever got the crucial win over the Wings with a 98-87 result. This allowed them to remain in fourth place in the standings with a 22-12 record.
It was their third straight win, and Caitlin Clark led their offense with another double-double of 29 points and 10 assists with three boards and a steal.
They will begin their five-game road trip on Sunday against the Atlanta Dream.
