When Caitlin Clark returned from a two-game absence due to a back injury, the Indiana Fever put her on a minutes restriction and managed her workload. She played in short bursts for a total of 16 minutes against the Los Angeles Sparks on July 8 and then sat out the second game of the back-to-back against the Phoenix Mercury.
While Clark has now played in three straight games, including Friday's clash with the Seattle Storm, there are still questions about her availability for Saturday's showdown with the New York Liberty because it's also a back-to-back. Not to mention, the team continues to be cautious about her workload.
Fortunately, it appears Clark's status is trending in a positive direction.

Head coach Stephanie White confirmed to reporters during her pregame media availability that the plan is to let Clark suit up against the Liberty.
"I mean, as of right now, the plan is for her to be available tomorrow," White said when asked if Clark will play on Saturday, although she refused to say it with finality.
White also acknowledged that it takes time for any player to get acclimated after an injury and a lengthy absence. Clark wasn't able to play competitively for two weeks because of Indiana's light schedule.
With that said, aside from building back Clark's endurance, the Fever are also considering her mental state and level of confidence in body. According to White, overcoming the mental hurdles of an injury is "just as hard as it is physically."
"Subjectively, it's how she feels," White said when asked about Clark's progress in her injury recovery. "From our standpoint, it's how she looks, her endurance, her efficiency, how well she's moving. It's collaborative. It's making sure we get her feedback, making sure that she's comfortable and confident, getting feedback from the medical staff."
Regardless of whether Clark ends up playing against the Liberty, she and the Fever will benefit from extra rest, as they have a three-day break before their next game on Wednesday against the Connecticut Sun.
