Stephanie White Accuses WNBA Refs Of Bias Against Caitlin Clark

The Indiana Fever didn't just fall short to the Phoenix Mercury on Wednesday night, they lost Caitlin Clark to a few "cheap shots."

With 6:52 remaining in the second quarter, Clark fell to the ground and was hit in the neck by Alyssa Thomas' fist. The All-Star forward then got up and stepped over Clark before going down the other end of the court.

Midway through the third quarter, Clark left the game with a back injury and did not return. Although it's unclear if the injury occurred during the scuffle in the second quarter, Fever coach Stephanie White was fuming during her postgame press conference.

"We have a generational talent and WNBA superstar who had two cheap shots [against her] right there that weren't called," White said. "Absolutely unacceptable."

A few moments later, White suggested that Clark doesn't get a favorable whistle like most players.

"Absolutely disrespectful. We spent all offseason looking at officiating, and I still say the one thing that we keep asking for is consistency," White continued. "[Clark] is not called the same way as everybody else is called. The fist in the throat is crazy. It's crazy. It's dangerous. ... When you have these things continue to happen time and time and time again, eventually it gets frustrating."

What's the latest on Caitlin Clark?

The Fever will play the Los Angeles Sparks this Saturday at home. It's unclear if Clark will be available for that matchup.

"We've got to be careful. It's a long season," White said. "We've got to make sure that she's healthy."

If we had to guess, there's a good chance Clark will sit out this weekend's game. An official update should be shared in the coming hours.
