The Washington Commanders added a lot of production to their receiving corps this week, adding Pro Bowler and Super Bowl runner-up Stefon Diggs on a one-year deal. But as it turns out, they were Diggs' first choice, not his last resort.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter via Underdog, there was interest in Diggs' services from a slew of NFL teams. The three that he knows about are the Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins and Las Vegas Raiders.
It's certainly not hard to imagine that any of those teams would have interest in Diggs. The Chiefs' issues at wide receiver are well-documented. Miami is in need of a replacement for Tyreek Hill. The Raiders need some veteran help to give rookie QB Fernando Mendoza.
All of them would have good reasons to bring Diggs into the fold.
Ultimately, Diggs appeared more interested in staying close to home though.

Diggs and the Commanders
ESPN's John Keim noted on Wednesday that Diggs grew up in suburban Washington and has been close to the team for some time now.
"Diggs strengthens a receiver group whose depth had improved from 2025 but was still facing questions at the top, aside from McLaurin. Diggs, who was born in suburban Washington and played collegiately at Maryland, had made his desire to play for the Commanders known," Keim wrote.
"Diggs attended Maryland's first fall practice Wednesday and the university shared a video message on Instagram from the former Terrapins wide receiver."
It's good news for the Commanders, who went from a 12-5 trip to the NFC Championship in 2024 to a 5-12 record in 2025 after being ravaged by injuries. Starting wide receiver Terry McLaurin now has a fellow 1,000-yard receiver in Diggs to take some of the pressure off and potentially give star QB Jayden Daniels more options.
Last year Diggs had 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns in 17 regular season games plus another 14 receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown for the Patriots during the postseason.
