Free agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs has spent the past few months patiently waiting for an NFL team to knock on his door.
Diggs had a nice 2025 campaign with the New England Patriots, hauling in 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. His connection with Drake Maye played a huge role in the team winning the AFC East, and yet, he was released at the start of the new league year.
The Patriots reportedly cut Diggs strictly for salary-cap relief. If he was on the roster past a certain date in March, an additional $6 million of his contract would've became guaranteed.
Although he's been waiting on the market for a while, Diggs is expected to sign a new deal fairly soon.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Washington Commanders have expressed interest in Diggs. The two sides are expected to get a deal done, but the terms of that agreement aren't known at this time.
"The Commanders and 2x All-Pro WR Stefon Diggs have had deep discussions and there’s mutual interest in doing a deal," Schultz said. "Expectations around the league is Diggs ends up in Washington soon."

Bad news for Brandon Aiyuk.
Despite being on the San Francisco 49ers' roster, Brandon Aiyuk has expressed his desire to team up with Jayden Daniels on the Commanders.
Aiyuk, who had 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023, has not played for the 49ers since suffering a torn ACL in October of 2024. During the 2025 season, the 49ers had $27 million in guarantees voided from Aiyuk’s contract because he failed to meet certain requirements
“Brandon is on a left squad designation,” 49ers general manager John Lynch said. “As such, he’s not on our 90-man roster. And I’m personally and we as an organization are going to focus on the players that are here. And so, I don’t have anything to say on that, anything to add to that. We wish him well. We wish his family well.”
If the Commanders sign Diggs in the near future, that could close the door on a potential trade involving Aiyuk. After all, they'd cross off their need for another wideout.
