Aaron Rodgers is seriously considering returning for another season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The update came before Super Bowl 60 on Feb. 8 and quickly drew attention. Rodgers, 42, would enter his 22nd NFL season if he decides to play again.

The report was shared on NFL GameDay by insiders Tom Pelissero. Pelissero said Rodgers has not informed the Steelers of a final decision, but the odds of a return are increasing.

"It is Super Bowl Sunday, so we are legally obligated to begin with the future of Aaron Rodgers," Pelissero said. "Rodgers has not yet informed the Steelers whether he will return for a 22nd NFL season, but my understanding is the odds are increasing."

Pelissero mentioned that Rodgers has spoken several times with new Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy. He has also talked with wide receiver D.K. Metcalf, who wants him back in Pittsburgh.

"I am told Rodgers has spoken several times with new Steelers coach Mike McCarthy, who of course helped Rodgers develop into a four-time MVP and a Super Bowl winner in Green Bay," Pelissero said. "Rodgers also has spoken with wide receiver D.K. Metcalf, who wants Rodgers back at age 42."

The current plan is for Rodgers to take more time before deciding. The Steelers hope for clarity before free agency begins in mid-March. If Rodgers returns, the team would still need to work out a new contract.

"If he's going to come back, they need to work out a contract, but at this point it would not be a surprise if Rodgers is back in Pittsburgh," Pelissero said.

Rodgers completed his first season with Pittsburgh in 2025 after signing a one-year deal. He threw for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He protected the ball well, but the offense lacked big-play consistency. The season ended with a 30-6 playoff loss to the Houston Texans.

The Steelers finished 10-7 and won the AFC North. Defense and late-game execution carried much of the load. Still, the playoff defeat raised questions about the roster and future direction.

Rodgers is a future Hall of Famer with 21 NFL seasons completed. For now, his next move remains undecided, but a return to Pittsburgh is very much in play.
