San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama entered the NBA's concussion protocol on Tuesday's Game 2 against the Portland Trail Blazers. It happened in the second quarter when he fell to the floor after attempting to drive to the basket. He hit his head on the hardwood and was immediately taken out of the contest.
According to preliminary reports, the league's concussion protocols prohibit Wembanyama from resuming full participation for 48 hours following the incident. However, he could resume gradual activity after 24 hours. That is, if the symptoms do not get worse.
The NBA star must also reach several benchmarks without symptoms before the team and the league can give him clearance to play.

According to the Spurs, Wembanyama has been listed as questionable for Game 3 against the Blazers.
The Spurs reported on Wednesday that the two-time All-Star traveled with the team to Portland. At that time, however, his status remained unclear. Head coach Mitch Johnson said that the big man is "progressing."
Spurs forward Julian Champagnie also said on Thursday that Wembanyama joined the team at the practice facility and got some shots up. However, De'Aaron Fox said that he did not stay long during their morning practice.
“Obviously, we just want him to be healthy,” Fox said.
The Spurs will closely monitor Wembanyama's progress during their first-round playoff series against the Blazers. The 2026 Sixth Man of the Year, Keldon Johnson, told reporters on Thursday that the star player's health is their main concern. The team wants the 2026 Defensive Player of the Year to return at a 100%.
It’s pretty straightforward,” Johnson said. “Obviously, we hope he’ll be back at some point. But we’ll allow the protocol to play out. And again, there’s nothing more important than his health.”
Wembanyama only played 12 minutes in Game 2 and finished with five points, four rebounds, and one block. Without their best player, it was a serious challenge for the Spurs to try to get a win against the Blazers. Backup center Luke Kornet replaced the injured star and had 10 points, nine rebounds and two steals. However, that wasn't enough, and the Spurs had a 106-103 defeat.
Wembanyama is the team's go-to player, and he set the tone in Game 1, leading the Spurs to a 111-98 win with his record-breaking 35-point performance. Game 3 will be at Moda Center on Friday.
