While some may debate that it’s not true, October has an excellent argument for best month of the year for sports fans.
If we just go off the calendar for this Thursday, Oct. 1, fans can enjoy Game 3 of the NL Wild Card Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves. The winner of that matchup will take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS.
Speaking of the MLB postseason, the second round will officially begin this weekend. There’s plenty of intrigue surrounding the Padres-Brewers series in the National League as well as the Yankees-Rays series in the American League.
Basketball fans get to watch the WNBA playoffs, which resumes tonight with the Indiana Fever and Las Vegas Aces. The winner of this game will advance to the semifinals.
The NBA season, meanwhile, is set to begin on Oct. 20 with an exciting tripleheader that includes LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers taking on the New York Knicks.
The NHL season, on the other hand, has already started off with a bang. The Florida Panthers, Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks and Las Vegas Golden Knights all picked up massive wins on Tuesday.

Week 5 of the college football season kicks off this Saturday with a few top-25 matchups. We’ve got No. 7 Alabama facing off against No. 16 Mississippi State, No. 5 Ohio State battling No. 14 Iowa, and No. 8 Florida taking on No. 25 Missouri.
Last but certainly not least, we’ve got the 2026 NFL season hitting its stride.
This weekend’s NFL slate includes a handful of intriguing games, like an AFC West showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders. We’ll also get to see the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams square off in an pivotal NFC battle.
Suffice to say, October truly has it all.
