It has been an interesting season thus far for the Los Angeles Sparks as they currently hold an 8-8 record after defeating the New York Liberty at home Sunday night.

Of course, Los Angeles started the season off slow as the team won just one of their first four games but they have since turned things around.

The Sparks will look to continue their solid stretch and grab their ninth victory of the season Thursday night as they travel to take on the Toronto Tempo.

While the Sparks are looking to pick up a key victory on the road Thursday night in Toronto, the team announced Wednesday that they will be without one of their star players.

The Sparks announced Wednesday that star guard Kelsey Plum will miss Thursday’s game against the Tempo due to a lower left leg injury and that she will be evaluated in four weeks.

Of course, Plum returned from a one-game absence due to her left leg injury in Sunday’s victory over the Liberty, though she sported a heavy wrap on the leg and was in clear discomfort after the game.

This is a massive blow for Los Angeles as Plum has led the way for them offensively this season and she is now set to miss at least the next four weeks.

This season, the 31-year-old guard is averaging 23.9 points, 2.2 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 52.7% from the field and 38.3% from three over 12 games.

Plum has gotten off to a career-best start as she is averaging a career-high in points and assists per game this season and Los Angeles will likely desperately miss her offensive abilities during her absence.

With Plum now set to be sidelined for at least the next four weeks, Rae Burrell, Chance Gray and Ta’Niya Latson could all be in line for increased roles moving forward while the Sparks will likely rely on Nneka Ogwumike and Dearica Hamby to carry the load for them offensively.

While this is a massive blow for the Sparks, Plum is expected to return around the All-Star break where Los Angeles will look to make a run for a playoff spot in the second half of the season.
