Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham learned the hard way that you shouldn’t taunt Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson.
During Game 2 of the Aces-Fever series, Wilson got into an altercation with a fan with 4:10 remaining in the fourth quarter. Wilson was hit with a technical foul, whereas the fan was asked to temporarily leave their seat. It was later revealed the Indiana fan didn’t violate the team’s code of conduct.
According to “The Pat McAfee Show,” the fan pointed at Wilson and said, “That foul is on you.” Before this information was even shared with the public, Cunningham mocked Wilson on social media.
“Not trying to be dramatic at all, like seriously. I was just here having my morning coffee and what a damn comeback year for the ‘point.’ Who would have ever thought? Just who would have ever thought,” Cunningham said in a TikTok video.

Roughly 24 hours later, Wilson eliminated the Fever from the playoffs by scoring 36 points in Game 3 of their first-round series.
“Last point, regardless of what you feel about Sophie Cunningham’s views, I think we can all agree that her mocking A’Ja online is tantamount to if Kent Bazemore went after LeBron during the ‘15 ECF,” FS1’s Nick Wright said. “Just an absolutely absurd ‘Don’t poke the beast’ moment from a bench player.
“Sophie Cunningham really thought it was a good idea to poke the goat,” one fan wrote on X. “A’ja Wilson was literally probably thinking about that every second leading up until this game lol.”
A’ja Wilson made history against the Fever.
With Game 3 in the books, Wilson has become the first player in league history to have three consecutive 30-point games when facing elimination.
According to ESPN Insights, the Fever contested 39 of 48 field goal attempts from Wilson in this series, and yet, she converted 79% of them.
Next up for Wilson is either a showdown with the Golden State Valkyries or Dallas Wings.
