Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham isn’t afraid to call out Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson, that’s for sure.
During Game 2 of the Aces-Fever series, Wilson confronted an Indiana fan and received a technical foul for doing so. Although fans assumed something disrespectful was said by the fan, the Fever said he didn’t violate their code of conduct. It was then revealed by Pat McAfee that the fan just pointed at Wilson and said she committed a foul.
Prior to Game 3 of this series, Cunningham went on TikTok and offered her cryptic thoughts on Wilson’s altercation with a fan.
“Not trying to be dramatic at all, like seriously. I was just here having my morning coffee and what a damn comeback year for the ‘point.’ Who would have ever thought? Just who would have ever thought,” Cunningham said in her video.”

A few days later, Cunningham aired out her complete thoughts on her “No Hesitation” podcast. Not only did she tell Wilson to “grow up,” she said WNBA players need to stop complaining about everything fans do.
“Us women in sports yell from the rooftops that we want equality. We want to be treated by the men and we want all this stuff,” Cunningham said. “If you’re asking for all these fans to come [support] and you have real sports fans do something that a sports fan would probably do, we’re going to go for them just saying you fouled? Like grow up, what are we doing? We ask all these things and then once people come out and support us, we get mad and then its inappropriate.”
Cunningham said she feels comfortable firing off this rant because she’s dealt with more criticism than any other WNBA player this season.
“I can say that because I got [expletive] on the entire season. People came after who I am, my character, what I stand for. I’ve heard the worst of the worst. It’s part of it. Who cares?”
WNBA fans react to Sophie’s rant.
Even though Cunningham has dealt with plenty of backlash this season, WNBA fans are applauding her for this take on Wilson’s Game 2 incident.
“I love Sophie Cunningham she pretty much just said Aja soft,” one fan said.
“People are gonna be BIG mad at this. But she’s right,” a second fan replied.
“Facts! This is why I’ll always be a fan. She’s unapologetically herself, doesn’t fold to outside noise,” another fan commented.
We’ll see if Wilson fires back at Cunningham in the coming days.
