Sophie Cunningham is standing by her comments.
The Indiana Fever guard made it clear that she believes transgender athletes should be kept out of women’s sports. Cunningham spoke out against transgender athletes in women’s sports during an interview with ESPN. Cunningham told ESPN that she wanted to “protect young girls in the locker room” and that “they shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”
Cunningham faced some backlash for her comments, but she’s choosing to stand by them.
“I said what I said. I think it’s kind of common sense,” Cunningham said earlier this season, while speaking to reporters. “And I think I’ll always believe in that. I think it’s really important to protect children, and that’s little girls who are also involved in that category. I stand on what I said.”

“Kick Rocks,” her shirt said.
Cunningham pointed to it as she took some pregame photos.
“i mean….. if the shoe fits 🤷🏼♀️🙂,” she wrote.
