Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham refuses to let those who don't even know her control the narratives surrounding her career.
Cunningham has become incredibly popular since joining the Fever in 2025, gaining over 5.8 million followers across TikTok and Instagram. Although she receives plenty of love from Indiana fans, some people have accused her of making harsh remarks towards the transgender community. Others have ripped her because they assume she supports the Republican Party.
During an extensive interview with ESPN's Hallie Grossman, the veteran guard for the Fever responded to a few false rumors about her.
"I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I'm like, 'I never once said that,'" Cunningham told ESPN. "I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."
As for her political views, Cunningham claims she's "very much in the middle" as of this moment.
"I'm very much in the middle. I agree with things on both sides, disagree with things on both sides. And that's all I've ever said about my political beliefs. But people love to assume."

What does the future have in store for Sophie Cunningham?
Former Grantland and ESPN writer Chuck Klosterman predicted this month that Cunningham will eventually be the Vice President of the United States.
“Sophie Cunningham … I’m going to say 2050, is going to be Vice President of the United States,” Klosterman said on the latest episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast. “I don’t know what party she’ll be in, I don’t know anything about her political views. But she will be the vice presidential candidate, at least the candidate.”
If Cunningham ends up taking a dive into the world of politics, she won't be allowed to be in the middle, that's for sure.
