As the wider movement opposing transgender athletes in women's sports continues to rally behind Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham, two more rallies to show their support are currently in the works.
According to Jackson Thompson of Fox News, a rally to support Cunningham has been planned for this Saturday in Chicago when the Fever visit to take on the Chicago Sky. It will be the fifth such rally in recent weeks and won't be the last. Per the report, another rally is slated for New York City in late-August.
"Another Sophie Cunningham rally has been planned for Saturday in Chicago outside the United Center ahead of Fever vs Sky. This is the fifth Sophie rally that has either occurred or been planned, with another already set for New York on Aug. 22," Thompson wrote.
The Issue
A controversy erupted during the Seattle Storm's July 28, 2026, game against the Indiana Fever after two fans alleged they were confronted by Seattle Storm co-owner Celeste Keaton over signs supporting Fever guard Sophie Cunningham.
According to the fans, Keaton approached them in the stands, criticized their display, and called them "(expletive) insane" during a heated exchange. The incident came amid heightened tensions surrounding Cunningham after her recent public comments opposing transgender women competing in women's sports, which had already sparked protests and visible demonstrations both supporting and criticizing her position.
