Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham is making sure her WNBA money is not being wasted.
Thanks to the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), WNBA players were able to get higher salaries starting in the 2026 season. Cunningham herself benefited from it, as she signed a one-year, $665,000 deal to return to the Fever after hitting free agency during the past offseason.
Cunningham’s new deal was worth way more than what she earned in her first seven years in the WNBA. According to Spotrac, her total contract value during that span is $569,022.
While other players chose to enjoy their newfound wealth by treating themselves a bit, Cunningham took a different approach. Instead, she opted to invest her money in real estate, buying vacation properties in Arizona and renting them out on a short-term basis.

The 30-year-old WNBA veteran isn’t done either, as she plans to buy more properties to grow her money. According to ESPN, Cunningham hires a company to run the properties, while she supplies the funds.
“I’m about to probably buy one in Nashville and Florida, and so I’m just starting to make a business outside of the court,” Cunningham revealed. “It’s good, it’s fun. I’m trying to buy places that I want to go visit, so when I’m there, I don’t have to pay for it.”
Cunningham explained that players need to be “smart with that money,” especially since many of them waited for a long time to get that kind of pay. With that said, they “can’t just go out and blow it all or not invest.”
For Cunningham, the money coming their way should provide them with an opportunity to build something of their own.
“I think it allows all of us to kind of grow and be businesswomen,” the Fever star stated.
