Sophie Cunningham has quietly put together the best season of her tenure with the Indiana Fever. Primarily coming off the bench, the veteran guard has become one of the league’s top best shooters while providing valuable depth for a Fever team that enters Thursday’s game against the Las Vegas Aces with a 19-11 record.
Cunningham is averaging 9.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists. The 28-year-old is shooting 45.2% from three-point range, the second-best mark in the WNBA.
Cunningham has also emerged as one of the leading candidates for the WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year award. Despite missing out on an All-Star selection earlier this season, she remains one of Indiana’s most consistent role players.

Her form, however, was not enough to earn a place on Team USA’s 12-player roster for the upcoming 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup in September.
USA Basketball selected Indiana’s Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark, Dallas Wings’ Paige Bueckers, Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier, Phoenix Mercury guards Kelsey Plum and Kahleah Copper, Las Vegas Aces trio A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray and Jackie Young, Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese, New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart, and Atlanta Dream guard Rhyne Howard.
Cunningham has never represented the United States at the senior level. With Team USA boasting one of the deepest player pools in women’s basketball, competition for roster spots was always expected to be fierce.
The Fever have 14 regular-season games remaining, and another strong finish could strengthen Cunningham’s case for Sixth Woman of the Year even after missing out on both the All-Star Game and Team USA’s World Cup squad.
