The Indiana Fever’s season ended after they fell to the Las Vegas Aces in the first round of the WNBA playoffs. The team will face several important decisions this offseason, including Caitlin Clark’s potential contract extension. Sophie Cunningham is also entering free agency after completing her one-year contract.
Cunningham has been a great addition to the Fever since joining the team in 2025. She has been the team’s enforcer and a reliable shooter. This year, she averaged 7.9 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists. She also shot 46.0% from the field and 41.9% from three.
Clark, meanwhile, had her best season yet in her young career. She averaged 22.3 points on 44.5% shooting from the field and 36.1% from three, all career highs. She also registered 4.0 rebounds, 8.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game.
In a recent episode of her “No Hesitation” podcast, Cunningham had some strong words about her superstar teammate.
“It does not matter the score when you have 100% CC (Caitlin Clark), and you do have Kelsey (Mitchell),” the eight-year veteran said. “You’re never out of a ball game. You always feel confident. You always have that belief we can win this game.
“When CC is on and the way she dishes the ball, you just have this confidence and this calmness to you. … You have a peace about you that we’re going to win this game regardless because you have the best player.”
The Fever also had a memorable campaign. They finished with a 28-16 record, the most wins in franchise history. However, they still fell short of their goal of winning a WNBA championship.
Clark will continue to lead the charge for Indiana next season, alongside Aliyah Boston. However, uncertainty remains around their free agents, including Cunningham and four-time All-Star Kelsey Mitchell.
The offseason will be very interesting for the Fever.
