Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham has nothing but love for now former teammate Megan McConnell. This is after the Fever waived McConnell before the start of the new WNBA season.
McConnell joined the Fever on April 13 on a training camp contract. However, the 5-foot-7 guard ended up as one of the three casualties as the front office made its roster cuts on Wednesday.
McConnell took to Instagram on Thursday to share some snaps of her time with the Fever. Cunningham was one of the Indiana players to comment on the post. The veteran had three words for McConnell.
“😍😍we love you,” wrote Cunningham.
A few other players on the squad also offered their support for McConnell after the Fever’s decision to release her.
“Meggg ❤️❤️❤️” posted rookie Raven Johnson.
“My Meg 🥹🥹🥹” Justine Pissott wrote.
McConnell's time with the Fever may have been brief, but it is clear that she's made an impression on her teammates. Cunningham's message is a testament to this as the 6-foot-1 guard expressed her love for McConnell.
McConnell, an Indianapolis native, played in all three of the Fever’s preseason games. However, she failed to score in three appearances off the bench. The former Duquesne Dukes standout logged six rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
It is worth noting that McConnell could have a path back to the Fever. According to a report by Chloe Peterson of the Indianapolis star, the team will likely sign one of the three players it released. McConnell could potentially return to the roster on a developmental contract.
Along with McConnell, the Fever also waived guards Kayana Traylor and Jessica Timmons.
McConnell is the sister of Indiana Pacers guard T.J. McConnell. She made her WNBA debut last season with the Phoenix Mercury.
