The WNBA has been putting on a show basketball-wise this season, but outside drama has been a major distraction for the league.
Ever since Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham criticized transgender athletes in women’s sports in a profile for ESPN, the floodgates have opened up. Sunday night, former NBA big man Enes Kanter – who has “declared” for the 2027 WNBA Draft – attended the Sky vs. Fever game. He was ejected after getting into it with Sky guard Natasha Cloud.
“I just got kicked out of a @WNBA game for supporting WOMEN! Let that sink in, AMERICA! 🇺🇸,” he shared on X.
“It’s always women hating on other women.”

Kanter claims that he was celebrating a Sophie Cunningham 3-pointer when Natasha Cloud had some words for him. The two then got into it, with Kanter approaching the floor, and he was ultimately kicked out.
Is Cunningham to blame for all this drama, though?

“All of this chaos can be pinpointed back to Cunningham and her comments,” one fan said.
“The moment the league didn’t discipline Sophie Cunningham for her transphobic comments, they set the table for almost all of this political discourse and nastiness towards the trans community. Her conduct has objectively been detrimental to the league,” Chris Williamson added.
“League didn’t have these problems until Sophie Cunningham opened her mouth,” one fan added.
“This is on Sophie Cunningham and I will not be explaining any further,” one fan added.
Cunningham, meanwhile, stands by her comments, though could her future in the WNBA be in jeopardy?
