Sophie Cunningham supporters are going after WNBA star Paige Bueckers for her behavior on Team USA this week.
Bueckers, a second-year WNBA star, is one of 12 players representing the United States of America at the FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin, Germany. She went viral for her behavior in the USA No. 4 jersey this week.
The former UConn Huskies star was seen twerking in the red Team USA jersey, apparently for a TikTok video.
“If I were the sporting director of a club or a federation, I’d ban my players from doing those little TikTok dances in the official kit,” one fan wrote.
“There are certain things you do not do while wearing your national team jersey in an international competition. This is one of them She no longer in college or HS This team needs strong leaders who would put a stop to all these attention seeking and unprofessional behavior,” one fan added.
But while a lot of fans are criticizing Bueckers, some are saying that Cunningham’s supporters are being accused of having a “double standard.”
Last month, Cunningham was seen pulling her shorts down, in a prank before a WNBA game.
Video of that incident went viral, too.
Do Cunningham’s supporters have a double standard?
“All the people who called Paige and Angel bad role models for doing a Tik Tok are the most miserable people. I would rather see a player do a fun Tik Tok than endorse and remain complicit in bigotry and transphobia. Sophie literally did something even more obscene multiple times and these same people didn’t care,” one fan wrote.
“Insane double standard,” one fan added.
“If you have a problem with one, you have to have a problem with another. If you don’t have a problem with one, you can’t have a problem with another,” one fan added.
Team USA, meanwhile, is hoping to limit distractions, heading into Friday’s opener against China.
The game will air on TNT.
