Alysa Liu has now participated in her second Winter Olympics, winning her first Olympic gold medal at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Games after finishing first in the figure skating team event. Joining Liu on Team USA in the run to gold were fellow figure skaters Amber Glenn, Ilia Malinin, Ellie Kam, Danny O'Shea, Madison Chock and Evan Bates.
On Tuesday, Liu, along with Glenn and Isabeau Levito, competed in the women’s singles short program, looking to add to her medal count. Liu delivered a strong performance, finishing third with a score of 76.59, including 41.34 in technical elements and 35.25 in factored components. Levito (70.84) and Glenn (67.39) placed eighth and 13th, respectively, as well, which was enough to join Liu in the free skate final.

During her performance at the short program in Milan, Liu pulled off a jump commonly referred to as the "triple flip," which added 6.89 points to her final score. The toe jump requires skaters to make three full rotations in the air, taking off from the backward inside edge and landing on the same foot used to vault.
Liu’s triple flip even impressed the NBC Sports commentator, who broke down the jump using slow-motion video.
"Here's a look at that triple flip," the commentator said. "We talk so much about how many skaters can get tight under the pressure. Not with Alysa. Cushiony, soft landing, like landing on a pillow."
Olympic fans were left impressed with Liu's triple flip in slow motion, taking to the comment section to leave their thoughts.
"So glad she came back and on her own terms. 🔥🔥🔥," one fan said.
"Ice skating looks best on you!!" wrote another.
"Alyssa does it for the love of ice skating!🙌❤️🙌," commented a third.
"Love her! I hope she brings the gold home for her individual performance!❤️🤍💙," added a fourth.
"Absolutely love watching her perform… So beautiful 😍," chimed in a fifth.
"She is so good. Imagine if she did her 3A. Unbeatable!" added a sixth.
The woman's single free skating event will begin on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
