Los Angeles Sparks forward Cameron Brink got injured during their crucial run against the New York Liberty.
On Thursday, the Sparks visited the Liberty on their home floor at the Barclays Center and nearly pulled off an impressive comeback after going down by as many as 28 points.
Among the players who helped Los Angeles almost steal the game away on the road was Brink, who made crucial baskets on the offensive end and big stops on the defensive end.
However, with six minutes left in the final quarter, Brink took a hard shot in the ribs from New York star Breanna Stewart, who was called for an offensive foul.
Brink wasn’t able to immediately get up after the contact. The former Stanford star was even assisted back to the locker room. She never returned to the game.
ESPNW’s official X account posted another angle of the play in slo-mo, and it's hard to see Brink sustaining another injury.
Eventually, the Sparks succumbed to an 85-81 loss to the Liberty. Sabrina Ionescu led the charge for New York, finishing with 20 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Before the injury, Brink had nine points, seven boards, two assists and three blocks. This was not the first time the Stanford standout had suffered an injury. She has previously sustained other major injuries since her arrival in the league in 2024 as the second overall pick in the draft.
Brink suffered a left ACL tear in her rookie season, limiting her to just 15 games. She also suffered a broken nose last season, forcing her to miss significant time. This year, the 6-foot-4 forward suffered a left ankle sprain in the early stages of the season, prompting a one-month injury absence.
The Sparks have yet to provide an update on Brink's latest knock as of this writing.
