Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs continue to show that they are back to their elite level of play after a disastrous 2025 season. Sure enough, their Week 2 win against the Indianapolis Colts is starting to change how fans and experts alike view them this year.
After blowing out the Denver Broncos 31-10 in Week 1, Mahomes and the Chiefs showed their tenacity and ability to win even in tough games against the Colts. The star quarterback completed 32 of his 47 passes for 382 yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, Travis Kelce finished the game with nine receptions for 101 yards and one touchdown.
The Chiefs’ passing game was key to overcoming a 20-17 halftime deficit and the defensive pressure the Colts threw at them. Aside from Kelce, wideouts Xavier Worthy and Jalen Royals each caught a touchdown pass.
Kansas City’s OT win and incredible 2-0 start has led to a lot of positive reactions across the league. Among those who shared their thoughts was sports commentator Skip Bayless.
Bayless was simply in awe of the Chiefs’ performance, highlighting his belief that they remain the “best team” in the AFC West.
“Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs are still the best team in the AFC West,” Bayless wrote.

Entering the season, many believed that the Broncos, who topped the AFC West in 2025, would be able to continue their reign at the top of the division. ESPN even had the Broncos as a top-four team in its preseason power rankings.
Now, if Mahomes and Kansas City are able to maintain their current form, they won’t just be the best team in the AFC West.
