Shohei Ohtani is hoping to break out in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series on Wednesday night.
Ohtani is hitting sixth in the lineup in Game 3. It’s the lowest he’s hit in a Dodgers lineup since signing three years ago on a $700 million, 10-year contract. Ohtani, the team’s designated hitter, typically hits at the top of the lineup.
“Shohei’s all on board,” Roberts said before the game, per ESPN. “Whatever it takes to win.”
Ohtani is hitting just .238 over his last 21 at-bats. He hasn’t hit a home run since August.

“I couldn’t imagine really kind of having the expectations that he has and falling short in a way that it’s not normal for him,” teammate Mookie Betts said before the game on Wednesday night. “Then having to come back and be present in this postseason knowing how important he is to the boys.”
Roberts, meanwhile, remains confident.
“He was determined, and that’s an understatement,” Roberts said. “He was here late last night working on his swing, out with the guys and talking about things on how we’re going to beat these guys.”
Ohtani is confident, too, thanks in part to the support of his wife.
Wife of Dodgers star is a former professional athlete
Ohtani’s wife, Mamiko Tanaka, is a former professional women’s basketball player in Japan.
She made a rare public appearance earlier in the playoff series, attending a game with other wives and girlfriends of Dodgers players.
Ohtani and his wife have made some public appearances on red carpets, though she mostly stays out of the public spotlight.
