Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay’s brief postgame press conference after Sunday night’s 30-26 loss to the Denver Broncos made for an unexpected talking point after the Rams squandered a 16-point halftime lead.
However, McVay addressed the episode on Monday and apologized to reporters who missed his brief availability, explaining that a timing misunderstanding and a lack of questions, rather than an intention to avoid the media, led him to leave the room early.
“I’m sorry that I missed you guys yesterday,” McVay said. “I had been going for a few minutes, and there was some misunderstanding with some of the timing. Once a question was asked, there was enough silence [for the press conference to end].
“It never was my intention to ever miss any of your questions. If there was any sort of misunderstanding, that was definitely not the case. I apologize for that, but [vice president of communications] Artis [Twyman] just made me aware of that. I understand my role and responsibilities to be able to talk, whether it’s after a win or whether we don’t get the results that we want, so I want to, at least, acknowledge that.”
McVay acknowledged the emotions surrounding the close defeat to Denver while reiterating that he hadn’t deliberately cut the session short.
“I know a couple of our beat reporters were just — there was a mix-up with timing,” McVay said. “But I was in there for a few minutes. There was a pause in any sort of questions and obviously, [it was an] emotional game. That was what led to that, but if there was any misinterpretation, I do apologize for that.”
Los Angeles led Denver 16-0 at halftime before allowing 30 second-half points, finding no rhythm at all on any side of the ball during the second half.

Starting quarterback Matthew Stafford threw for 390 yards but also had two late interceptions, including one in the end zone on the game’s final play.
The 1-2 Rams visit the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET with both teams coming off Week 3 losses.
