Some big names are expected to play serious roles in the NFL broadcasting free agency market in 2027.
Troy Aikman leads the list right now.
The “Monday Night Football” announcer admitted on Thursday morning, during an appearance on 96.7 The Ticket in Dallas, that his time with ESPN is likely ending.
“There’s probably a time and a place for all that,” Aikman said, via Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News. “I don’t know if now is the time. I don’t know if it’s hard to figure out kind of what happened. I’ll broadcast through this season and I’ll be a free agent at the end of the year and kind of see what happens. I’m looking forward to whatever the rest of this season does hold and the Super Bowl and all that and where my next landing spot may be.”
Greg Olsen is expected to be a free agent, too.
“FOX has not had any negotiations with Greg Olsen about a contract beyond this season, per industry sources. Olsen’s contract expires at the end of this NFL season. Something notable is Olsen had exploratory talks with CBS Sports two years ago. He’s already called a Super Bowl and enjoys critical praise. Would be a very attractive free agent,” Richard Deitsch shared.

But Sean McVay could be a factor, too.
The Super Bowl-winning NFL head coach has openly flirted with retirement and a move to broadcasting in the past.
If the Rams come out on top this year, it could be an ideal time for McVay to step away and move into broadcasting.
McVay is expected to at least consider it
Amazon Prime, ESPN and even CBS could make runs at McVay, who is reportedly thought of in extremely high fashion by network executives.
“The NFL analyst musical chairs setting up for the next year: Potential openings: CBS, ESPN, plus Amazon’s new Herbstreit deal reportedly includes an out clause. Potential free agents: Troy Aikman, Tony Romo, Greg Olsen, Sean McVay (?) Fascinating stuff,” Front Office Sports’ Ben Axelrod shared.
It’s certainly going to be a fascinating time in the sports broadcasting world this NFL offseason.
