The Seahawks need to get younger on the edges, and a recent mock has the team accomplishing that.

The Seattle Seahawks are kicking off the 2026 season just 48 hours from now. However, it’s never too early to begin thinking about the next draft.

If the Seahawks plan on staying elite, they’ll have to keep drafting well. Right now, the team has a nice mix of veteran stars and young talent, and they’ll have another chance in 2027 to add some talent to the mix.

One recent mock has the Seahawks adding an impressive edge rusher in 2027, which could end up being a bigger need than we think.

Seahawks Select Matayo Uiagalelei in 2027 Mock

Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report recently published an updated 2027 mock. Sobleski has the Seahawks taking Oregon edge rusher Matayo Uiagalelei with the No. 30 pick in the first round.

Uiagalelei is a multi-year starter for the Ducks who has 19.5 sacks and 26.5 tackles for loss in 43 games with the program. Uiagalelei holds his own as a run defender as well, so he would be an interesting piece to add to the mix in Seattle.

A main reason for Sobleski mocking Uiagalelei to the Seahawks is the fact that the Seahawks’ current edge rushers are old.

“The Seattle Seahawks are old on the edges of their defense. DeMarcus Lawrence is 34 and entering his final professional season,” Sobleski said. “Uchenna Nwosu, who turns 30 later this year, is a free agent after this season. Dante Fowler Jr., 32, is only signed through this season.”

As Sobleski mentioned, this is an old group of edge rushers, and it will need to be replenished this offseason. Lawrence has already announced that he will retire after this season, and Nwosu and Fowler could both sign elsewhere.

“Uiagalelei offers some scheme/alignment versatility with his experience playing as a stand-up outside linebacker, while having the size to be a base end. The 6’5″, 265-pound edge-defender is a solid all-around player, who can set the edge against the run and be a productive pass-rusher with 18.5 sacks during his first three years at Oregon,” Sobleski added.

Sobleski also mentioned Indiana offensive lineman Carson Smith, Oregon defensive lineman A’Mauri Washington, and Indiana wide receiver Charlie Becker as other possible options for the Seahawks. It definitely seems smart to keep adding to the trenches, and the wide receiver depth could be better as well.
