The Seattle Seahawks are getting ready to kick off the 2026 season against the New England Patriots. These teams ended last season against each other, so it’s only fitting they begin this season the same way.
Unfortunately, injuries have been a big thing for the Seahawks this summer. Ahead of Week 1, the team’s secondary is especially banged up. Nick Emmanwori hasn’t practiced fully since mid-June, and Ty Okada was ruled out of Week 1.
Emmanwori was listed as questionable in the injury report this week, and unfortunately, we now know the star defender won’t play.
Emmanwori, Tory Horton Among Inactives
Before kickoff on Wednesday night, the Seahawks announced the following seven players will be inactive:
- DB Nick Emmanwori
- QB Jalen Milroe
- WR Tory Horton
- DB Ty Okada
- OL Beau Stephens
- TE Nick Kallerup
- DE Mike Morris
Obviously, Emmanwori, Okada, and Tory Horton are the big names here. Without the two starting safeties, the team will roll with Julian Love, A.J. Finley, and Rodney Thomas II. Finley and Thomas were called up from the practice squad on Wednesday in anticipation of this news.
With Horton out, the team will only have four wide receivers active in this contest. Horton is supposed to be the kick returner, so Shaheed will likely handle all returning duties in his absence.
Milroe will be the emergency quarterback, which means he can suit up if Sam Darnold and Drew Lock get injured in this contest.
It will be interesting to see how the safety positions are handled without Okada and Emmanwori. When everyone is healthy, Love and Okada will be the safeties, while Emmanwori will play in the nickel and wherever else he’s needed on the defense.
It’s concerning to be without both Okada and Emmanwori, but the team clearly didn’t want to risk aggravating an injury.
For the Patriots, the only notable inactive is running back TreVeyon Henderson. Without Henderson, the team should rely heavily on veteran Rhamondre Stevenson in the backfield.
