The Seattle Seahawks got back to the top of the football world last season. After entering 2025 with almost no Super Bowl buzz, the team went all the way, and in impressive fashion, by the way.
One would think the unlikely Super Bowl run would make the Seahawks the talk of this offseason. However, that hasn’t really been the case. The 49ers, who have had a ton of offseason drama, and the Rams, who made headlines with a couple of huge additions, have received much more discussion than the Seahawks.
The Seahawks are even being featured on the latest iteration of HBO’s Hard Knocks, and it still feels like the hype is muted. As a result, Gilberto Manzano of Sports Illustrated even listed the Seahawks as a winner of the summer due to how quiet it’s been.
“No one seems to be talking about the reigning Super Bowl champions. Despite being on Hard Knocks, the bulk of the spotlight was on the team they beat in the NFC championship game,” Manzano said.
It’s understandable why the Rams have so much hype, to be fair. They traded for the best edge rusher in football and brought one of the best defensive linemen of all time out of retirement. As if the roster wasn’t loaded enough already.
“However, this could be a good thing for Mike Macdonald’s crew. They usually thrive when they’re being counted out. There’s plenty of motivation before Seattle begins its quest to repeat, which starts Wednesday in the opener against the Patriots,” Manzano added.
Count Seahawks Out at Your Own Peril
Last year, nobody was picking the Seahawks to win the Super Bowl. But thanks to an elite defense, career season from Sam Darnold, and some elite playmakers, the team secured another title.
The main reason to be optimistic in the team repeating is the fact this core is almost exactly the same. Running back Kenneth Walker II and cornerback Riq Woolen are gone, but other than those two, this team is mostly the same.
The defense will still be elite, and the offense should still be exciting. Instead of wondering if the Rams can get back to the top, or if the 49ers can finally get over the hump, we should appreciate the fact that the Seahawks are currently the top dog, and they’re set up for long-term success.
