The Philadelphia Eagles aren’t out of playoff contention in the weak NFC East, but the front office may have a tough conversation regarding Saquon Barkley and his future with the organization.
Barkley was outstanding for the Eagles during their Super Bowl run in 2024, rushing for over 2,000 yards and recording 15 total touchdowns. The All-Pro running back took a step back in 2025, racking up 1,140 yards and seven touchdowns on 280 carries.
Even though Barkley is under contract through the 2028 season, Philadelphia may want to consider moving on from him while he still has value. After all, we’ve already seen Howie Roseman trade away star wideout A.J. Brown and Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgens over the past year.
According to Zach Berman of The Athletic, the Eagles might be willing to part ways with “aging stars” on their roster. However, moving on from Barkley will be “tough” due to his contract situation and the fact that he’s still an elite playmaker.
As of now, trading away Barkley would leave the Eagles with $26.4 million in dead cap next year.

Who would have interest in Saquon?
ESPN’s Ben Solak proposed a trade where the Eagles send Barkley to the Houston Texans in exchange for Woody Marks, a 2027 third-round pick, a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick.
“The Texans are once again on pace to have a bottom-5 rushing attack, but Barkley has the talent behind the line of scrimmage to help cover for a shaky interior offensive line group,” Solak wrote.
The Seattle Seahawks have also been mentioned as a potential suitor for Barkley, but they’ll get Zach Charbonnet back very soon.
