New Orleans is still waiting on its first-round receiver, and the wait will last at least one more week. Jordyn Tyson didn’t practice Wednesday in France, and Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said the rookie won’t practice this week, according to ESPN’s Katherine Terrell.
“He is improving and we feel like we’re getting closer,” Loomis said. That’s a step short of what seemed possible a day earlier. Tyson’s 21-day practice window could have opened as soon as Wednesday, we wrote Tuesday, which would have given him the bye to get up to speed.
What Tyson’s delay means for the Saints

The Saints took Tyson eighth overall out of Arizona State, where he had 75 catches for 1,101 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2024. He followed that with 61 catches for 711 yards and eight touchdowns in nine games last season. He strained his hamstring in an Aug. 13 joint practice with the Jaguars and has been on injured reserve since Aug. 30, so his NFL debut is still on hold six games into the season.
The offense has scraped by without him. Tyler Shough threw three touchdown passes on just 144 passing yards in the 34-27 win over the Giants, per Bleacher Report, and the Saints ran the ball 37 times. Devaughn Vele played 66 snaps, while Chris Olave played 42 and Bryce Lance 36, according to PFF. A healthy Tyson would give Kellen Moore the inside-out target this room is missing.
Loomis also had bigger questions to answer in Paris. He asked for patience with a “young developing team,” the Associated Press reported via ESPN, and responded to Gayle Benson’s criticism, which Shough has already addressed. “I think every once in a while, we need to be a little uncomfortable. That’s OK,” Loomis said.
The defense is doing its share, with Chase Young and Carl Granderson each recording 1.5 of the five sacks against New York. For the Who Dat faithful who made the trip overseas, Tyson will be one more thing to watch from the sideline Sunday. If his window opens after the bye, the Nov. 8 game against the Browns becomes the realistic target.
