The Kellen Moore era might be coming to an end sooner than anyone could’ve imagined.
After going 6-11 in his first season as the head coach of the Saints, Moore entered this year with much higher expectations. The Saints came into Week 1 with an emerging quarterback in Tyler Shough, a revamped run game led by Travis Etienne, and a wide receiver room that features Chris Olave.
While the Saints have been exciting to watch at times this fall, they’re now 1-4 heading into a Week 6 showdown with the New York Giants. They’re on a three-game losing streak that includes a blowout loss to the Atlanta Falcons on “Monday Night Football.”
Although there are 12 games left this season, Saints owner Gayle Benson is already putting the heat on Moore and his coaching staff. In fact, she called him out during the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club Luncheon this Tuesday.
“As the owner, the responsibility does start with me,” Benson said, via Rod Walker of NOLA.com. “I will not make excuses and I will not accept this level of performance as our standard. I am committed to making the decisions necessary to improving this team. Everyone on this organization understands the urgency. We must prepare better, execute consistently and correct mistakes that are costing us the games.”
Benson continued, “Kellen Moore and his coaches are responsible for preparing our players to perform. Mickey Loomis and our football staff are responsible for building a roster capable of sustained success. Our players are responsible for their preparation and execution. I am responsible for holding this organization accountable.”

The pressure is on Kellen Moore.
If the Saints lose this Sunday’s game against the Giants, that could open the door for Benson to make a coaching change mid-season.
And for anyone doubting Benson, just remember she fired Dennis Allen during the 2024 season.
Suffice to say, Moore needs to enter the bye week with a 3-4 record or else he’s in serious trouble.
